Fan Mail

First off, since I'm not delivering right now, let me recommend a new delivery blog, Diary Of A Pizza Man.  The author seems to be working and updating regularly and will certainly have some stories to tell.

Also, I must be out of the loop becaus I didn't even know Pizza Hut was having a video contest.  I doubt this video will win, but they were the only one that emailed me so they are getting some free publicity here.

My Survivor Video Application

I'm a big fan of the TV show Survivor!  I've watched the show for years and I read several blogs:

Reality TV Center, Sean's Random Thoughts, and Rob Cesternino's Immunity Blog.

Anyways, I've been talking about applying to be on the show since at least 1996 or 1997.  I have finally done it, I made a video for the Sears Casting Call contest.  The top 10 videos (as voted by some CBS judges) will be posted online for public judging, and the winner goes to LA for an audition.

So when I make the top 10, I will definitely be askinf for your votes!

Recognition - Culinary Blog

Woo hoo!  We are listed at #6 in the Top 24 Pizza Blogs on the Culinary Arts College blog!  This was posted a few weeks ago and we definitely saw a spike in traffic.  I've been too busy to check it out until today.

That is a great blog!  So many links to other blogs about food.  There's Mexican cooking, baking, food & travel, and even a list of restaurant recipes to make at home!  I'm sure we will try the recipe for Wendy's frostee, and the cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster!

Not So Happy Valentine's Day

I worked tonight. I always like to work on Valentine's Night as we are usually pretty busy and tips are usually pretty good. Well, tonight was an exception.

The night started off ok, I walked in the door and there were 2 deliveries boxed up and waiting for me on top of the oven. I made a quick $2.92 on the first and then a disappointing $1.00 on the 2nd. Shortly after I got back, I had another delivery and made another $2.92. So I was close to $7 in just over 1/2 hour.

For the next 5 hours I took only 6 deliveries and made just $12 in tips, with most of that ($8.50) coming from just 2 orders.

Then at 5 minutes before 11, the phone rang. Twice. I made another $6 on my last 2 deliveries.

The 2nd one I earned it for sure. Standing on the porch in the cold, I knocked. Several large loud dogs heard me but apparently no people did. I phoned the customer to let her know that was me that her dogs were barking at. She said she was upstairs and hadn't heard me but would be right down.

For the next about 5 minutes, I heard her in the house yelling a girls name.

Finally the girl came down and paid for the pizza, with a decent $3.43 tip.

All in all, I drove for 6 hours, took 11 runs, made $25, and drove 44 miles. Decent for a weeknight but disappointing for Valentine's. It was definitely a far cry from last year's $57.

Oh and I have to give a shout out to pizza driver Zach and his new blog, Entry Level Life. Same topic, different stories, sure to be interesting!

Make Money Blogging?

Not me.

Now my blog is not the most popular website by far. In fact, according to Alexa, it is not even in the top 6 1/2 million, coming in at 6,506,239. Still, it does get a few regular visitors. I've been tracking unique visitors since March:

  • March 2007 - 1642
  • April 2007 - 1069
  • May 2007 - 745
  • June 2007 - 556
  • July 2007 - 924
That's over 30 visits per day, and 45 page loads.

As you may have noticed, I am set up for Google Adsense. Adsense pays for advertising impressions and pays much more for ad-clicks. Now, Adsense has been running longer, since January. Adsense shows 11,381 page impressions, or slightly over 50 per day. In those 7 months, my ads have been clicked on a grand total of 27 times, and Google owes me $7.63. When my balance gets over $100 they will cut me a check!

I also have an Amazon Associates link. So far, since February, there have been 30 clicks on my Amazon link. I'll get a 4% commission if anybody ever buys anything, but so far, nobody has.

I also have a PayPerPost account, but so far, there haven't been any topics that really apply to my blog. Basically, I'm not posting what they're paying for. I did see that they are paying $5 to write about SiteMighty, an affiliate site for credit cards, but by the time I checked it out, that opportunity was gone. The good news is, now if you need a credit card, I can help!

In summary, I'm making about $1.50 per month on average. If I keep it up for 5 years I may actually hit $100 and get paid! But on a per-hour basis, it's definitely not a profitable use of my time.

Another Carnival, and Nick Has A Blog!

Turnover at most pizza places is pretty high. I have worked at our shop, a franchise, for less than 3 years and there are only 4 employees with more seniority than me. Of those 4, 3 of them work the day shift. One driver, Mark, and 2 waitresses, Kim and Angie.

The only evening employee that has been there longer than me is Nick. Nick started a couple months before me, as a cook, while he was still a sophomore in high school. Nick is a hard worker and a real go-to guy. After he turned 18 he has run some manager shifts. Recently due to another store closing and us inheriting several of their employees, Nick is back on the make-line.

But the reason I mention all of this is, Nick has a blog! Check him out.

Also, we have been included in another Blog Carnival, this time the Carnival Of Dining Out!

I'm busy this weekend finalizing the schedule for the soccer league that my team plays in. I have 476 games that I need to assign to fields, dates, and times. So I won't be delivering again until Monday.

I thought I posted this already but I must have put it somewhere else. My nephew Zorlod also has a blog. Good stuff!
